BUYING HAPPINESS AND DOORS TO UNIVERSES: An E-Commerce Simulation

Image
Exhibit A: Picture of me (that I forced my sister to take) pretending to read a book because the main point is to flaunt them. They're my babies that allow me to transcend universes. If I were to be completely honest, I only used this simulation as an excuse to buy one of the volumes of the "Tian Guan Ci Fu" (TGCF, English: Heaven Official's Blessing) book series that I do not have yet. It's one the book series I'm trying to collect the hard copies of. Seven Seas Entertainment is bound to publish the last two volumes before 2024. I was super excited to buy it — the 7th Book, to be specific... even if I was actually struggling with money. I tried my best to save a part of my allowance for this because I know, no matter what, it will be worth it. It's my favorite romance novel ever! I read its epub file back in 2019 and I wanna elaborate but I will be gushing forever once I start. Anyway, in my defense, I only spend my savings at the end of the month or th...

JEZ'S QUALIFICATIONS CHECKPOINT: How would I consider someone as a digital citizen?

There are technical ways to identify and define a digital citizen. The digital society, in my own definition, is a virtual subset of an actual, living society that includes individuals, families, groups and communities that participate and engage with one another in the use of digital tools and technology while upholding the associated laws, norms, ethics and etiquettes.  Going by that self-constructed definition, digital citizenship is simply being a part of such society; which, by chunk, also means that a digital citizen is: (a) an individual who is a part of an actual, living society (b) an individual makes use of digital tools and technology (c) an individual who upholds the laws, norms, ethics and etiquettes of the digital society In my opinion, for this case, being a person who's a part of an actual, living society can already be a huge determinant to be considered as a digital citizen. An individual's life condition is largely influenced by their environment; or the soci...

SECURING SAFETY AMIDST IMPERFECTIONS: My Ways of Mitigating Risks in E-Commerce

Haven't we always heard, "money is the root of all evil"? Take for example a dollar bill — it's flimsy and thin but it means and equates to so much more than just mere numbers. The way this hybrid of cotton and linen urges people to do malevolence is terrifying to say the least. Times evolved and along with that was most all worldly things. Money could be expressed in many ways now: it isn't just a collection of bills, or cash, it could be intangible and invisible. Times evolved... and so did the ways evil perpetuates in the lives of humans. Ultimately, it seems that money is the reason why risks exist in e-commerce. It's all about how far people would go in order to gain. This is where the scams come in; and all sorts of deception. However, these risks could also be due to the limitations of human capabilities and automation efficiencies; as well as factors we could not really control like those in relation to delays in shipping and deliveries (i.e. weather, ...

"I DON'T OWN ANYTHING BUT MY VOICE": The Role of Multimedia and Copyrighting in my Youtaite Experiments

Image
I kind of already exposed myself on one of the entries here so I feel a bit hesitant to talk about this again. I used to be an aspiring "Youtaite". I got strung along when I was 17 years old when I first learned about the existence of this...community. It was the only time I could not deny that I, too, could be easily influenced. To be broad and simple, "Youtaite" are people who sing covers of Japanese songs on Youtube and who conceal their true identities with avatar representation and an associated username. "You" is from Youtube, "utaite" is a sort of abbreviation or a shorter derivation from the Japanese term, "utattemita" ( 歌ってみた ) that means "tried to sing". The songs covered are most particularly those that are sung by AI voice personalities known as "Vocaloids". I don't want to delve deeper on that because it's a whole another topic but if it wouldn't be so bad to act upon tickled curiosity. One m...

LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP: Some thoughts about the Internet or Web

Just like most of technologies in the world, the internet or the web has gone so far. I came a long way and as it was being developed to the way it is now, for sure there had been bumps and jagged corners where it was subjected to criticism. With the years of research and study, the cumulative efforts of thousands of people, one could say that the internet is, more often than not, considerably more reliable nowadays. The downside of its reach and ubiquity however lies in the excessive freedom it gives to people. You could notice that basically anyone can post anything on the web and with just a few clue words, they could be accessed, regardless whether the information there is credible or not; safe or not. The net can easily give you the information that you want; however, they might not exactly be the information that you need. One of the few mistakes people make while using the internet nowadays is searching up the diagnosis for a wide range of signs and symptoms. Honestly, I do that...

SOCIAL MEDIA, and the things I associate it with

Things that come to my mind when I hear "Social Media": 1. Theatre Stage It's a place where people could made a persona (or a lot of personae) and assume a number of roles according to that persona. I know about this so much because that is basically how I use social media all the time. This is most especially true with my Instagram accounts. I have that one account that is reserved for my real life events. That account has my name and photographs. On the other hand, my other IG account is made for my artworks. My username can't really identify me and I am even using an illustration for my display picture. Eversince I decided to use that account for art and when it started gaining more followers, I had never shown my face in pictures there. I like the sense of anonimity and mystery it offered. 2. Dump Site Of course, haha! This one is what I've always heard about X (formerly Twitter). If you wanna hear juicy gossips about some celebrities, you can just go there, s...

OWE IT TO I.T.: How Information Technology has been Useful to me as an Individual

Image
"Laziness is the mother of all human progress." This quote really stuck with me ever since I heard it from a random anime I had watched from when I was 19 years old. The main character was so laidback it was infuriating because even when he was always chill , calm and collected, he always managed to get through any adversity that came his way. He wasn't on a high horse but you see, the protagonist's halo was prominent. While everyone was so determined to make use of the traditional approach to any problem (which usually involved violence and bloodshed in the story's context), his solutions were always seemingly out of the box, and seemingly...lazy; but that was mostly because his methods were those that technically made use of minimum effort yet posed the smallest of risks and loses. When you think about it, that was kind of how most technologies were born: someone or some people, at several points in time in history, basically got lazy — in the case of informatio...

aLi-ve: Softwares That Matter to me the Most

Image
I've been on this Earth for 24 years and along the way, I realized that, next to studying and learning new things, there seemed to be nothing more fun for me than collecting and doing hobbies. To make it sound a bit more profound, I have been looking for ways to fight off boredom while maximizing my capabilities. Among my many hobbies, I have my main three subjects of interests: music, stories, and art. Correspondent to them, of course, are softwares or applications that enable me to do them more conveniently, process and storage-wise. Starting with the first one, music. I used to be a singer. Not just because I sing for fun but, you know, as in -- I was someone who was called upon, requested or invited to come up on stage and sing for entertainment or competitions. It all started with intermission numbers at an early age of five, to joining contests in school or from town to town at the age of six and onwards. Like most good things, however, it came to an end; something happened t...

TWO-FACED COMPANION: Is Computer Technology a gift or a curse?

Image
Man, I don't know about you, but I think I've only been looking at one of the so-called two faces of computer technology. From what I can recall, since the day I started using computers, it has been nothing but a blessing to me. If I consider the experience of others, however, I could say this subject is...well,  subjective. It might be because I use computers well and wisely that I have never tasted its wrath. I have never been a victim of cyberbullying, hacking, scamming, and all those deceitful and threatening operations. Refrigerators and other such types of computers do malfunction at times but I see those as my own fault for not maintaining them enough. Function and malfunction alike considered, I still think computer technology is a gift to humanity. Whenever I need something, I just know there's a certain computer technology for it that makes it easier, faster and more convenient. The curse side of using computer technology, in my opinion, would be if the users beco...

THE IMAGINARY CIRCUIT: Relationship of User, Application, Operating System and the Hardware

Image
Here's what: I'm one of those common folks who are always on their phones, fiddling with applications but then, do not really understand the intricate processes going on inside the phone that makes all that possible; and, I wasn't in a rush to find out either. The diagram above looks simple by itself - it shows a relationship, and more so, a cyclic type of relationship between the user, the application, operating system, and the hardware. It's pretty obvious that the user would be me, or any other people who make use of applications; an application is whatever software we download on to our phones that perform specific functions for us; the operating system (OS) — well, this one is a bit complicated — it's like the middleman that facilitates between the application and the hardware; and the hardware is the phone, as in the machine or computer that it is, together with its memory, processor, etcetera. Interpreting the diagram, I gather it's the way the data is...

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: A Concept Map

Note: This was created after the discussions — which is a good thing, by the way. I've never really been good at constructing concept maps. Imagine if we were asked to make one before everything else... hah..
